Reverse sneezing in dogs

My dog Molly has suffered from this all of her life but until recently I never knew what was wrong. I took a video and showed to my vet who also wasn't sure. However thanks to youtube and a user called broddybounce I now know Molly suffers from reverse sneezing.

Reverse sneezing in dogs

Reverse sneezing is when a dog inhales through the nose and to an onlooker is quite distressing, take a look at the video below of Molly reverse sneezing.

Molly is now 9 years old and has always suffered this, usually after playing in the fields or she may wake from a sleep and go straight into an episode. Several vets were flumoxed by it but yesterday a user from YouTube saw the video as his own dog was suffering from the same thing.

His vet knew exactly what it was and diagnosed reverse sneezing, to save duplicating content here’s a link to the article on wikipedia on reverse sneezing.

I guess it isn’t that common as there is very little information on it, let me know in the comments below if your dog reverse sneezes and whether you knew what it was.

Hi my jack russell does this (6yrs)-had an episode last night & as with Molly he does it after being asleep but hasn’t done it during exercise. After he sounds a bit snuffly but is fine!!

That is very interesting. Once you mentioned the reverse sneezing you can see it is that. I used to have a Tibetan Terrier who did something very similar.
Molly is a super looking dog! I love her ears :)
