Dog gadgets we all need, or not

We all love a good gadget and luckily for dog owners there are many around, some are great innovations whilst others are plain stupid. Here are some of the best we found.

Dog gadgets we all need, or not

Whether your dog pulls on the lead or simply gets cold in winter, hates going outside or doesn’t like to be left at home whilst you go to work these dog gadgets are for you.

Dog leads (or leash for our American friends) have been the same for years so it’s about time someone invented a new way to walk your dog. Whilst the first two dog gadgets aren’t going to change your life but they may make walking your dog a little easier.

Wacky Walk’r

This new kind of lead takes the jerk out of a standard lead by utilising a bungee type elastic/latex. When your dog pulls the lead stretches which reduces the jerk on your dog and down your own arm. There is an internal safety line that prevents the lead from stretching too far making it dangerous.

Kosoku dog lead

This product hasn’t been launched yet but it looks promising. Standard retractable leads just aren’t great to hold and when a dog runs and maximum length has been reached your shoulder almost comes out of it’s socket! The Kosoku is designed to be comfortable to hold and soften the pull effect. I’m not sure how long iot will be before it hits the shelves but it’s one to look out for.

DogTread dog treadmill

Walking your dog in the winter isn’t much fun sometimes, so on those off days how about a specially designed dog treadmill? We’ve all seen the home video tv programmes where dogs run on a treadmill, well the people at PetZen thought that was way too dangerous so invented a specific dog treadmill. Regular exercise is essential for a happy dog so maybe this isn’t as daft as it sounds?

Dog tea towel holder

I can’t help but laugh when I look at this tea towel holder, it’s not a dog gadget as such but it is great fun. You’ll want to make sure you return your tea towel each time you use it just to cover up the dogs backside!

Dog sauna

Yep you read the title correctly, your dog can have their own sauna. The dog sauna isn’t intended to tan your dog (thank god) but provide health benefits and a cozy place to rest. The price tag means that it’s only for the really pampered dog in your life but it claims to ease arthritis, poor joints and helps recover from illness.

Furminator

I actually own one of these grooming tools that I use regularly on Molly, my German Shephard/Collie cross. She moults so much that I often consider starting a stuffed bear business. The furminator removes the hair that other tools didn’t and Molly enjoys a brushing too. It even works brilliantly on Toby my Lakeland Terrier who if I don’t remove the dead hair often develops itchy skin. I highly recommend one of these, it’ss save a fortune on grooming fees.

Dog camera

Have you ever wondered what life looks like from your dogs perspective? Wonder no more with this dog camera. Simply attach the camera to your dog and it will record life in your dogs eyes. It is shock and waterproof so should in theory withstand most dogs antics.

Dog swim safe

Lots of dogs love to swim, Molly adores paddling out to retrieve a ball or stick and it is great exercise too. Molly tore her cruciate and as part of her recovery I took her swimming to use the leg in a non impact way. I was always worried about her though especially when she went far out, the swim safe takes some of the worry away. It’s not the greatest looking product in the world but does it’s job well, although it is only for small dogs.

Bellobox poop scoop

All responsible dog owners pick up after their dogs, but it’s not a fun job lets face it. This new invention lets you pick up the poo without bending down or getting close to the poo. I don’t think it will work but would love some to try out. Not sure how big BIG dog owners would fare though.

Pet at Work Travel System

Do you take your dog everywhere with you? I feel very guilty leaving my dogs at home and they go with me wherever possible, this backpack was designed to fit your dog and a laptop to allow you to take your small dog to work. Just don’t forget it’s there and sit backwards too hard :(

Dog toilet water bowl

No explanation needed is there? Does your dog prefer to drink out of the toilet rather than their own water bowl? Let them satisfy their habit with clean water with a toilet shaped water bowl! Can’t wait to see this on Dragons Den.

Dog feeder

We all have to leave our dogs at some point, sometimes over a meal time. Dog feeders rotate when it is food time to make sure your dogs routine isn’t interupted and that food is evenly distributed. These aren’t new, but this one allows you to record your voice (which will probably freak your dog out!) and also features an ice pack area to keep the food fresh.

Dog tweeter

Lots of dogs have their own twitter accounts, although I suspect it is the owners who are tweeting on the dogs behalf :) Well now your dog can tweet themselves with the dog tweeter. The device attaches to the collar and serves pre-determined tweets depending on your dogs activity. The reviews on Amazon though don’t hold much hope for it so maybe you will have to continue writing the tweets for your dog a little while longer.
