Best iphone, ipad and android apps for dogs and their owners

Dog apps are popping up everywhere, from providing sounds to calm your dog if they make noise to tracking their whereabouts using a GPS collar, chances are you will soon have a dog app on your iphone or ipad.

Best iphone, ipad and android apps for dogs and their owners

I expected this post to list some pretty silly apps and it doesn’t disappoint but there are also some very useful apps for your dog too. One will track medications, worming, flea treatments and remind you at key times.

In no particular order, here are our favourite dog apps, I’ve not listed links as mst are available in various countries and on iOS and Android so just seaech for them in itunes or on Play for your version.

Apps for dogs health

Pet First Aid

A popular app available for iOS and Android Pet First Aid not only provides instructions but also videos on how to treat your pet. There is also a pet center where you can keep track of your pets, their weight, immunisations etc.

Dog First Aid

Available in the US app store only, this app gives you advice on how to treat your dog from a whole host of issues from antifreeze poisoning to cardiac arrest. It costs $1.99 which is a bargain to save your dogs life until you can get to a vet.

Petoxins

We all know that dogs shouldn’t eat chocolate but do you know if a berry they eat on the fields are ok or have you put poisonous flowers in your garden? This app boasts a huge search-able database of what to avoid and why.

Apps for walking your dog

Petometer

Track your dog walk, see how far you went and view the walk on a map. It will also keep track of your past walks and integrate with your calendar to remind you to walk your dog, although my dogs usually remind me way before an app would.

MapMyWalk

I have used the mapmyfitness website for years, you can track your runs, cycles, walks and more. Now they have a branded app for dog walking! The app shows you on a map where you have walked, how far, how long you were out, how many calories your burned etc. Did you know my average dog walk at a brisk pace burns 500 calories?

Doggy Datez

Fed up of walking your dog on your own? Wish you had someone to share the night time walks with? Doggy Datez lets you ‘mark your patch’ and see who else walks your area. You can search for typical fields such as sex and age of the owner as well as the dog to make sure your dogs will likely get on with each other.

Weather Puppy

How many times have you set out on your walk when it is lovely weather only to be 1hr away from home and the skies come down on you? Or have you gone out in two jumpers, hats, scarf and gloves only for the sun to come out mid walk? Too many that’s how many. This app is mmore than just a weather app, it shows you an image of a dog to depict the expected weather on your walk. Who can resist that?

Fido Factor

Haste leaving your dog at home when you go out? Fido Factor is an ever growing user generated list of dog friendly places meaning your dog can enjoy an outing too. It is a new app but the list is growing daily and it is FREE so why not add dog friendly places you know and build the database.

Apps to play with your dog

Dognition

Connect with your dog on a whole new level through a series of tests and games, this one looks promising and seems to be endorsed by Victoria Stilwell from the telly, that’s good enough for me.

Dog Boogie

If you are like me your camera and phone is full of pictures of your dog. Dog Boogie helps you take the ultimate cute head tilt by playing a sound when taking the picture. At the very least it will save you making silly noises in public to grab that cute shot out and about.

PetSnap

Similar to Dog Boogie, this is a camera that plays a range of sounds to your dog to help you get that perfect picture.

Doggie Toy

Does your dog go mad for squeaky toys? This app plays squeaky toy sounds when you shake your phone, I guess there must be a disclaimer in the app somewhere for when your dog tears your precious phone to pieces.

Dog Tricks – Best of 101 Dog Tricks

This one sounds promising but is receiving poor reviews. In theory the app helps you to train your dog no matter where you are and the alerts encourage you to keep up with the training. Featuring images and videos your dog should be sitting and staying in no time.

CrossTuner

Hmmmm, probably not the most useful app but may amuse you for a few minutes at least. Through the power of mystic mind control the app will tell you what your pet is thinking. They don’t limit it at pets however, if you should ever stumble across a zombie point the app at them to find out what they are thinking too.

Pavlov Dog Monitor

This app keeps an eye on your dog when you have to leave them alone and will play a range of sounds and videos depending on what they are doing based on the sounds they make. If your dog becomes stressed you can play a calming voice to them or just have the app talk to your dog randomly. The app can also update your facebook letting you know how your dog is doing whilst you are away.

Game for Dogs

Now you and your dog can play with your ipad together with Game for Dogs. This app has a series of games your dog will love to play or just sit watching as the cute creatures scurry around the screen.

Other dog apps

Fail Dogs

Dogs do stupid things all the time, this app is basically a doggy youtube showing stupid images and videos of dogs being silly. One to cheer you up if you are ever feeling down.

Pet Phone

Are you always forgetting when you need to worm and flea your dog, or did you miss that vets appointment or even need to track the weight of your dog? This app is a very handy reminder tool and helps you be the responsible dog owner you have always wanted to be.

Pet Dossier

Another reminder tool with the ability to tailor the app exactly to your pets needs. A nice bright colourful interface make it a pleasure to use and set up.

Dog-A-Log

There is always one in the group who seems to know every breed of dog, what their characteristics are and how to look after them. This app provides lots of information about breeds so you can swat up before you go out and astound everyone with your knowledge and shut up the know all.

DogiDuty

This app lets you track all aspects of your dog including the toilet trips. May be useful for when you need to monitor your pets bowel movements following an illness or operation or even for dog sitters to report on how the dog was each day to their owners.

That is our list of dog apps, do you have any on your phone, share your favourite dog app in the comments below.
